Veneers for a Natural Looking Smile

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, September 15, 2011

For a dramatic, yet natural looking improvement to your smile, consider porcelain veneers. Some smiles would be perfect with the slightest color change, or by changing the shape of one or more of the teeth. Veneers may be the answer.

Dr. Ryne Johnson, prosthodontist, has been recognized as a Boston-area leader in cosmetic denstistry and routinely places veneers to correct color or shape.  One will find glowing testimonials from local TV personalities, world-class models, and other dentists when searching his practice on line.   According to Dr. Johnson, “there is a substantial difference between average veneers and imperceptible veneers.  Too often, poorly done veneers can look chunky or chalky.   Outstanding dental work should go unnoticed”.

Veneers are custom-crafted, thin porcelain shells that are bonded to natural teeth, generally covering only its front and top. They have a very subtle color and are nearly transparent.

Veneers are non-invasive, natural looking teeth enhancements that can make a small, yet dramatic difference to a smile. For closing spaces between your teeth, lengthening small or misshapen teeth, or whitening stained teeth, veneers are perfect.

Once in place, the veneers become your teeth. The bond is extremely strong, so you don’t have to make any concessions with veneers. And if your teeth are chipped or beginning to wear, veneers can protect them from damage. The final result is a more beautiful and natural looking smile!

See a Specialist…The Difference will Make You Smile

Improving your Smile May Not be as Difficult as you Thought

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, August 04, 2011

Your smile is a big tool in the business world. Previously, there wasn’t anything you could really do to fix your smile. Today things are different.

The kinds of cosmetic dentistry options that are available today vary based on your needs. Your options range from teeth whitening to bonding tooth colored filling material to porcelain veneers and caps and full crowns.

Prosthodontists can guide you in the best decision for you. One of the best ways to avoid a fake looking smile is to remember that nothing in nature is perfectly symmetrical. Subtle variations in the teeth and smile are important; perhaps rounding the corner of a tooth. Also, the shade of your smile is important, even though everyone wants that bright white one, it is important that you and your prosthodontist select a shade that is right for you.

Veneers are a popular cosmetic option for patients whose teeth that are in good condition, but  they want the color or shape improved, or would like to fill in the gaps in their natural teeth. For these patients, porcelain veneers are a great option because they are aesthetic and can enhance the teeth without having to remove much of the tooth structure. Veneers are also much more conservative than conventional caps or crowns. Prosthodontists have the skills and experience to use veneers to make a natural and aesthetic smile.

See a Dental Specialist, The Difference Will Make You Smile

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, July 21, 2011

The motto or philosophy at Newton Prosthodontics is “See a Specialist, the difference will make you smile.”

A prosthodontist is a dental specialist who is trained in the replacement of missing teeth and in the restoration of natural teeth. After dental school, a prosthodontist has three or more years of continuing education.

A prosthodontist is trained to deal with complicated as well as simple restorations of the whole mouth as well as treating facial deformities that involve the muscles themselves and jaw alignment. Common procedures treated by a prosthodontist are dentures, crowns, dental implants, veneers and full mouth reconstruction.

There are various types of problems that prosthodontists address, and those are: the frustrated patients that are in pain regularly; older patients that have a lot of existing crowns and dentures and are literally outliving their complex dental work; rare syndrome patients like teenagers with no teeth, cancer patients, or those with malformed teeth; and lastly severely worn teeth caused by acid reflux and modern diets. The final type of scenario in which prosthodontist sees patients is when people feel the need to enhance their smile aesthetically. Prosthodontists lead entire teams of specialists that can create beautiful and lasting smiles out of complex aesthetic cases.

Dental health is important to your physical well-being, but a winning smile is important part of your business success. Getting a specialist to help you maintain that smile is very important.

Full Mouth Reconstruction Can Rebuild Your Smile

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, July 07, 2011

Full mouth reconstruction and full mouth restoration are terms to describe the process of rebuilding or simultaneously restoring all of the teeth in both the upper and lower jaws.

Full mouth reconstruction typically involves general or restorative dentists (performing procedures like crowns, bridges and veneers), and can incorporate a number of dental specialists unless you choose to use a prosthodontists whose is educated and skilled to perform all of the necessary procedures.

The need for full mouth reconstruction may result from:

  • Teeth that have been lost due to decay or trauma.
  • Teeth that have been injured or fractured.
  • Teeth that have become severely worn as a result of long-term acid erosion (foods, beverages, acid reflux) or tooth grinding.
  • Ongoing complaints of jaw, muscle and headache pain requiring adjustments to the bite.
Your prosthodontist will examine your mouth to determine the extent of the problem and your treatment options.
The condition of your teeth will determine what restorative procedures may be needed, such as porcelain veneers or full-coverage crowns, inlays or onlays, bridges or implants.

A stable bite, one in which you are not in pain when you close your mouth or chew and one that does not cause wear or destruction of your teeth, is important to your overall oral health. Occlusal changes need to be taken into consideration when your dentist plans your restorations.

The color, shape, size and proportion of your teeth, and how they appear in relation to your gums, lips, mouth, profile and face, are also important factors in full mouth reconstruction treatment.

Dr. Johnson does very sophisticated work and has performed this procedure multiple times for a whole spectrum of needs. He sees some of the most demanding, discriminating, and socially visible people in all of New England and is not intimidated by people who have set the bar very high. Contact Newton Prosthodontics to schedule an evaluation.

A Small Change to Your Smile can Make a Dramatic Difference in the Way You Look

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, June 09, 2011

A smile is often the most eye-catching feature of a face. With dentistry's many advances, you no longer have to settle for gaps in your teeth or with teeth that are stained, badly shaped or crooked. You now have choices that can help you smile with confidence. Even the most subtle change in your smile can make a dramatic difference in the way you look and in your self confidence.

Whether it was nature's mistake or the results of an injury, a veneer placed on top of your teeth can let you have a beautiful smile.

Veneers are thin, custom-made shells crafted of porcelain which matches your teeth and are designed to cover the front side of the teeth. These veneers are hand made based on a model created by Dr. Johnson.

Veneers are thin sheets of porcelain that are adhered to the teeth in order to change the appearance of short, textured, badly stained, or gapped teeth. This works better than bonding because veneers resist staining from food and drink and have a longer life expectancy. The results are more than worth it. If you have any questions about veneers ask Newton Prosthodontics.

Cosmetic Dental Treatments for Gaps Between the Teeth

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, May 12, 2011
Cosmetic dentistry is a specialized field using dental procedures to restore and beautify teeth. It is very popular today and more and more people are opting for cosmetic dental procedures to improve their appearance, comfort and lifestyle. There are several cosmetic dentistry treatments for gaps between the teeth including porcelain veneers, Bonding, Orthodontics or braces, and Crowns.

Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers look natural and are a solution to a wide range of cosmetic tooth problems. Porcelain veneers are thin shells of porcelain that are bonded to the front and tops of the teeth. They are thin and light can shine through them so they take on the natural color of the underlying tooth. Only a minimal amount of the original tooth structure has to be removed for veneers and usually they can be repaired in the mouth with bonding techniques. After they are bonded in place, they are beautiful, strong and durable.

Bonding

Bonding is a three-step procedure. First, the fronts of the teeth are treated with a mild acid. Next, the plastic bonding material is placed on and sculpted to the desired shape. The material is then hardened with a high-intensity light. Bonding produces strong, natural looking teeth restorations and is a one-appointment procedure.

Crowns
Crowns are made of porcelain, a combination of porcelain and metal, or metal only. They are best used in cases where teeth are broken down and need structural support and protection. They can also be appropriate if gaps in the teeth are extremely wide. If your teeth are intact and you just want to close the spaces, bonding, veneers, or orthodontics are the best choice.

Orthodontics or Braces
To provide the leverage to move and straighten and close the gaps in teeth, brackets are bonded to the front of the teeth, and connected with wires. They require no tooth reduction or other teeth restoration materials, but the treatment time is lengthy, typically 18 to 36 months.
