Improve Your Smile and Improve Your Confidence

Joseph Coupal - Friday, February 10, 2012

A smile is said to be worth a thousand words. Our smiles are certainly a first impression, especially when on a job interview, a date or anytime you are interacting with someone. But we often overlook our smiles, aesthetically speaking. But taking care of your teeth is essential and really improves your overall appearance.

Aside from the obvious dental cleanings and flossing, we can improve our smiles both in office and at home. Products such as Invisalign have transformed the world of braces. Now everyone can reap the benefits of straightening crooked teeth and correcting their bite more discretely.

Teeth whitening is a popular way to erase stains from smoking, drinking coffee and wine and age. There are numerous whitening toothpastes, mouth washes, light treatments and gels. In-office teeth whitening treatments are the best and most effective option for improving the color of your teeth.  Consult Dr. Johnson, at Newton Prosthodontics, a pioneer in teeth whitening techniques to learn if you are a good candidate.

For patients interested in cosmetic dentistry, a prosthodontist is the perfect option with extensive education and a library of options to help with missing teeth, chipped teeth or gaps in your teeth. We help patients find what it is they are looking to improve, including all the confidence that goes along with something as simple as a smile.

Fix Your Smile With Dental Implants

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, February 02, 2012

You need your smile to be all it can be. A smile conveys who you are, make it count. To replace missing teeth, dental implants are a great option. Instead of resting a false tooth on the gum line or using adjacent teeth as anchors, dental implants are long-term replacements.

According to Dr. Ryne Johnson of Newton Prosthodontics, dental implants can be used in several different ways:  as support for a complete denture, in conjunction with a removable partial denture, to support multiple crowns (bridgework) or as simple as replacing one tooth.  Implants have been an integral component in dental therapy for 30+ years. A prosthodontist is the best dental professional to design and determine placement.  A surgeon then affixes an anchor into the jawbone and the restorative dentist places the definitive dentistry on the implant (s).

Missing teeth affect your dental health, but their effects are more far reaching than even that. They affect your personal appearance, thus your self confidence. Dental implants are designed to fully replace missing teeth in function and appearance. Once dental implants are in place, they can last a lifetime.

Don’t compromise your health or your aspirations to missing teeth. Replace your lost tooth with a natural looking and naturally working dental implants; contact Dr. Ryne Johnson at Newton Prosthodontics with any questions or concerns you may have regarding dental implant therapy. Remember, “See a Specialist…The Difference will make you Smile."

Dental Veneers Give you Luscious Lips Too

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, January 26, 2012

Did you know that cosmetic dentists performed over 599,000 porcelain veneer procedures last year? This makes it the third most performed cosmetic dental procedure performed. Many patients receive porcelain veneers to enhance or repair their teeth and smile. Porcelain veneer procedures have increased by 250% in the past five years as more and more patients begin to see the benefits that an improved smile may have.

According to Dr. Ryne Johnson of Newton Prosthodontics, dental veneers can also enhance the fullness of your lips and an increasing number of women in his practice elect to place veneers as a way to enhance lip fullness and plumpness.

Porcelain veneers help increase confidence and improve your smile by augmenting natural lip shape. Dental veneers are a very common cosmetic dentistry procedure, but only recently have patients discovered what veneers can do to produce fuller lips, reduce wrinkles, and improve the appearance of the entire face.

The added thickness of the veneers pushes out one's natural lip curves to create a more rounded, ample shape. With a dental procedure like porcelain veneers, patients can experience plump, luscious lips without having to undergo plastic surgical procedures or dermal fillers. Dental veneers can improve the look of the smile and the entire face, and are permanent unlike dermal fillers. With veneers, patients can permanently enhance their lips and remove or reduce wrinkles in the corner of their mouth without having to endure frequent injections.

Consult with an experienced and dedicated prosthodontist can help you address any questions or concerns you may have when considering whether veneers are right for you. You may contact Dr. Ryne Johnson at Newton Prosthodontics by phone (617.965.1225) or by visiting his website NewtonProsthodontics.com. Remember, “See a specialist…the difference will make you smile.

Recapturing Your Youth...How Your Dentist Can Help

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, January 19, 2012

An aging appearance is not always about sunspots, wrinkles on your face and neck or one’s posture.  If your teeth have a yellowish or brownish hue, you could actually look ten years older.

However, if you have a healthy, bright and white smile, you will look much younger and vibrant. The following are a few anti-aging cosmetic dentistry procedures that can be performed by Dr. Ryne Johnson at Newton Prosthodontics:

1.  Dental Veneers
You look several years older than you actually are, if your teeth are crooked and misshaped.

If the tooth structure is lost, your smile will appear ‘older’. The shape of your lips may also be transformed, and so will the entire lower structure of your face. With dental veneers, you can look even up to 10-15 years younger. The veneers are made of porcelain and they are meant to transform the shape and color of your teeth.

Dr. Johnson, a Prosthodontist with advanced training in cosmetic procedures, who is truly an expert in what he does, can re-build the shape of your teeth with the dental veneers, he may also make those fine wrinkles around your mouth disappear.

2. Professional teeth whitening
Even if your teeth are healthy in essence, they might lose their bright and white structure if you are used to drinking coffee and tea every day.

There are several teeth whitening kits that you can use at home, but nothing compares to a professional teeth whitening procedure at our office. Your teeth can become even 5 to 6 shades lighter after one hour of professional treatment.

3. The dermal fillers …done best by plastic surgeons
There are experts who can make those naso-labial folds disappear with the help of dermal fillers.

After the application of the veneers is done, some use the dermal filer in order to smooth out the appearance of your skin between your lips and nose.

This way, your skin will look smooth and healthy, and this will being forward even more your beautiful teeth and smile.

In short, you can look and feel your best if your smile projects confidence and youthful beauty.  A visit to the dentist can offer predictable and incredible improvements in one’s overall appearance. Dr. Johnson is accepting new patients.  You may get more information about his practice at NewtonProsthodontics.com or by calling 617.965.1225.  Remember, “See a Specialist…the Difference will Make you  Smile

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, January 12, 2012

Michael Andelman (96.9 WTKK radio and Phantom Gourmet) was recently heard as saying, “I had put off going to a dentist for 8 years and my wife was frustrated. She really wanted me to do something about it. So, listening to the radio, WTKK, I heard the radio spot for Dr. Ryne Johnson at Newton Prosthodontics. I called him at his office, and I’m not kidding, he called me back from his cell phone a few minutes later!”

“He told me to be at his office at 6:00 the next day. I told him about my business meeting at 6pm that conflicted with that”, and he said to me, “no problem, I’ll see you at 6am tomorrow”.

“I couldn’t believe it. Talk about customer service, I was already blown away. I was in his office at 6:00am the next day. When I opened my mouth, Dr. Johnson…well, let’s just say he was less than pleased with the way my teeth looked”.  He said, “You haven’t taken very good care of your teeth”.

“I have never had better customer service IN ANY INDUSTRY than I had with Dr. Johnson at Newton Prosthodontics.  After a series of appointments over the course of a month, Dr. Johnson had fixed everything going on with my teeth.  I couldn’t be happier with the results”.

There is more to a dental visit than getting your teeth taken care of.  The visit, the care and the level of service you receive and feeling like you have a friend taking care of your dental health is extremely important. Dental Hygiene Relates to Your Overall Health

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, January 05, 2012

You may feel like you care for your teeth because you brush them daily. But you may still have harmful bacteria in your mouth. These bacteria could lead to periodontal disease. Worse yet, did you know there is also a link between poor oral hygiene and some major health issues?

1. It could harm your heart.

People with gum disease are almost twice as likely to suffer from heart disease. It is believed that harmful bacteria from your mouth enters your blood stream and attaches to fatty plaques in your heart's blood vessels. This leads to inflammation and can increases your risk of clots that can cause heart attacks.

2. Increases you risk of dementia.

There is research that shows a possible tie between poor oral health and an increased risk of dementia. It is possible that oral bacteria may spread to the brain through cranial nerves that connect to the jaw or through the bloodstream, and may contribute to the type of plaque that's been linked to Alzheimer's.

3. It could cause high blood sugar.

People with diabetes are more likely to have periodontal disease than those without diabetes. There has been research that finds gum disease could make it harder to control your blood sugar, and that treating it helps improve diabetes symptoms.

4. It may affect your breathing.

Gum disease may increase your risk of getting respiratory infections, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and pneumonia. This may be caused when bacteria from the mouth are inhaled into your lungs, possibly causing your airways to become inflamed.

5. It could make it difficult to become pregnant.

Women with gum disease took an average of just over seven months to become pregnant. The average time it takes women without gum disease is five months. Other research finds that pregnant women with gum disease might have higher odds of miscarriage.

Once you have periodontal disease it does not go away without professional intervention.  The doctors at Newton Prosthodontics can help you manage, maintain, and correct this condition so it will not worsen over time.  They’ll help you keep your teeth and your body as healthy as possible.

Media Personality and Local Dentist Endorse Dr Ryne Johnson of Newton Prosthodontics

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, December 15, 2011

A couple of years ago, when NECN (New England Cable News) was converting to a high definition signal, one of its personalities called Dr. Ryne Johnson for advice.  Jim Braude of Broadside: with Jim Braude, a nightly news and commentary show, recognized that the Hi-Def video was unforgiving.  He recognized that his smile needed some attention before the new conversion.

He had heard Dr. Johnson’s name around the station, but he didn’t know anything about him. Additionally, he had seen Dr. Johnson’s profile in the ‘Best of Boston Issue’ of Boston Magazine. He visited with Dr. Johnson and according to Jim, “Dr. Johnson did the most brilliant cosmetic work for him”.  He added that, “I know that the cosmetic dentistry work was done, but no one else can tell”.   Jim Braude considers Dr. Johnson of Newton Prosthodontics, “a magician”.

Recently heard on 96.9 WTKK, Jim Braude speaks of Dr. West, a public health dentist in the Boston area. She called Jim about her mother’s dream to have a perfect white smile.  Dr. West is great at basic dentistry, but wasn’t comfortable doing the extensive cosmetic dentistry part.  Her mother went to Dr. Johnson and is ecstatic with her new, beautiful smile.

According to Jim Braude and Dr. West, “Dr. Johnson, a prosthodontist in Newton, is on top of his game with outstanding skills.  He has the latest CAD/CAM technology, which is what he used on Jim Braude and on Dr. West’s mom.  Dr. West’s mom is so happy with her smile now, she is living her dream”!

According to Dr. Ryne Johnson of Newton Prosthodontics, where one seeks care and which dentist performs critical, cosmetic therapy influences the subtle nuances that determine whether one’s smile suggests countless hours in the dental chair or projects the radiance of well-maintained beauty.  You may get more background on Dr. Johnson or see the many testimonials from his patients by visiting NewtonProsthodontics.com or calling 617.965.1225.

Dr. Johnson is accepting new patients and reminds all to, “See a specialist…the difference will
make you smile

Your Smile is an Important Asset both Socially and Professionally

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, December 08, 2011

A recent survey from the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) finds 99.7% of Americans believe a smile is an important social asset, with 74% believing an unattractive smile can hurt a person's chance for success. This belief is engrained in the American culture. Patients should research cosmetic dentists before undergoing any procedure like teeth whitening, porcelain veneers, or dental implants.

Since 2006, teeth whitening procedures have increased by 300%, and porcelain veneers by 250%.  According to Dr. Ryne Johnson of Newton Prosthodontics, he’s noticed that more and more patients undergo cosmetic dental procedures like teeth whitening, or multi-phase dental procedures and full mouth restoration

Research and knowledge is the best tool patients can use to ensure quality service and pleasing outcomes. Patients who research procedures, cosmetic dentists and prosthodontists beforehand end up being happier in their dental treatment experience and being happy with the results of their smile makeover. When patients are engaged and invested in making decisions, in addition to checking dentists’ experience and credentials, the results are generally better.

As the AACD study highlights, more patients are undergoing cosmetic dentistry because they believe their smile is important, both in their social and professional lives. For more information about cosmetic or reconstructive dentistry you may visit two valuable web sites: www.NewtonProsthodontics.com or www.Prosthodontics.org.

If you want to enhance or “fix” your smile and demand excellence, contact Dr. Ryne Johnson at Newton Prosthodontics.  Remember, “See a Specialist...The Difference will Make You Smile”.
